Pohoiki Triathlon set for Nov. 23

The inaugural Pohoiki Triathlon will be held Nov. 23.

The 1.5 kilometer out-and-back swim starts at 8 a.m. starting from the Pohoiki Boat Ramp to “Shacks,” followed by the 40K out-and-back bike course from Red Road to Kalapana and a turnaround on Highway 130 — where the lava meets the road. The 10K out-and-back run course heads toward Kapoho on Red Road and finishes at Isaac Hale Beach Park.

Surfers are needed to help in the water, and course marshals to watch for traffic.

Surfer and course marshall volunteers are asked to email Joe Wedemann at hilotriathlon@gmail.com.
